Ben Stanley (freelance journalist), from Taupo, NZ, now in Memphis, Tennessee.

Ben Stanley, left, in the field.
Ben Stanley, left, doing what he loves best.

We get to meet the most interesting people in the world, from P-addicts in the Waikato to foreign heads of state. No one else gets the catbird seat of the human condition that we do.

The responsibility is huge and the progress slow, but know this: you’ll helping, in your own way, to light up the darkness. What better job could there really be?

Wintec was a fantastic launching pad for me as a journalist. I thoroughly enjoyed the robustly competitive class atmosphere the journalism school fostered – and the attentiveness and constant engagement our teachers had for us as students. If I were to start my career again, I’d be starting at Wintec.
