 A cycle trip to the ancient Cambodian temple of Angkor Wat was the highlight of an overseas journey for a Hamilton man whose parents left that country 30 years ago.

Siem Reap is the most popular attraction in Cambodia; it is where the legendary Angkor Wat is – the  largest Hindu temple in the world.

Ricky Heng was born in New Zealand and  He wanted to understand the history of Cambodia, as he sees the country as  his heritage.

“It was such an educational holiday for me. I had a mind-blowing time in Siem Reap.”

Tourists are eager to catch a glimpse of the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Ricky was amazed how spectacular it looked.

His tour guide recommended that he go for a bicycle ride to the Angkor area at 6am.

“I could not believe thatI was there, at one of the most precious monuments in the world, in the magical aura of Angkor Wat.

“The temple is about 900 years old and standing in front of such an old and impressive building, touching the ancient stones, was one of the highlights of my trip to Cambodia.”
