Hamilton walls are getting a splash of colour as the Boon Street Art Festival gets under way.

The festival, which started on Friday March 17, will see artists display their talents while brightening up the city.

One of the artists, Tracy Croucher will be adding flair to Wintec’s P Block on the corner of Collingwood and Tristram Streets in central Hamilton.

“The festival is a celebration of painting really,” Croucher said.

With more than nine walls getting a makeover, Croucher has been tasked with representing Wintec through the painting.

“Because it is a Wintec wall, we have to show something that represents Wintec, and that is why we have the different patterns representing the different cultures.”

“It will represent Chinese, Māori and other cultures from around Wintec.”

The artists have a small amount of room to use as a workshop, which is just one of the challenges with street art.

“The trickiest part is with the scaling and taking it from the design and putting it on the wall.”

A map to the other locations around town can be located on the BOON Hamilton Street Art Facebook page.
