Hamilton city councillor Geoff Taylor has criticised police for a lack of presence in the CBD.

The comments came after Taylor witnessed disturbing behaviour including vomiting in public while he was at a meeting at Garden Place in December.

“That day, the person I was talking to in the shop pointed out about 10 guys and one of them was vomiting the whole time.”

He said the shop worker complained to council whose City Safe staff were restricted in what they could do.

With City Safe limited in their powers, Taylor has challenged police to get out and be more active.

“Police need to up their game and if they are not visible in central city than they are letting us down.”

Taylor wants the council and police to work together to prevent  further problems in the city centre.
