Retailers hope DHB brings more life into city central

As the former Farmers building prepares for the DHB move, local business’s are holding high hopes for an increase in life for the central city.

Moshe Malal, of Coffix, hopes the DHB move will bring new customers, and vibrancy to the city.

Hamilton businesses are looking forward to more life being brought into the CBD’s south end when the Waikato DHB moves into new premises at the end of the year.

Moshe Malal, who is the franchisee of Coffix, is welcoming the DHB’s move into the building on the corner of Collingwood and Alexandra Streets, which is set to bring up to 700 people in to the area.

“The more people we have, the more business, the more life and the more vibrancy,” said Malal.

He hopes by October, when he’s heard the move will be complete, that his business’ customer base will grow.

Bruce Jackson, who owns Accent on Magazines, said it was a slow part of town.

He hoped the DHB move would have a positive impact on his business.

“When I first started 35 companies got their newspapers from me, I’m down to two.”
