Businesses buzzing about DHB move

Waikato DHB move to bring more customers to CBD.

Hamilton businesses are looking forward to the development of the former Farmers building in the CBD.

MK1 owner Chris Lander has been in the CBD for 28 years and is eager for the move by Waikato DHB into the building when it is completed by the end of the year.

“The DHB move is positive, we’ve watched town have its ups and downs, it’d be nice to read a few more good news stories,” said Lander from MK1.

Even with an established customer base, Chris would like to see more people in town.

“Looking at it through visitor’s eyes there’s just vacancies and empties, I try to stay positive, but a walk to Garden Place made it obvious that we need more people,” said Lander.

He is even more enthusiastic about the move as the IRD, where some of his regulars come from, are also shifting from the CBD.

Small businesses are not the only ones which will benefit from the move, said Natalie Robinson from the Noel Leeming admin team.

Since moving to its new area opposite Wintec, Noel Leeming has had fewer sales, so it also eagerly awaits the new DHB building.

“The DHB will create more business for our Noel Leeming branch as we have a relationship with them, as opposed to the IRD moving, which won’t hurt us too much,” said Robinson.
