One of New Zealand’s largest motorsport event promoters celebrate their 20th birthday this year and are marking it with a free event this weekend.

4 & Rotary hosts events from drag racing through to show and shines and drifting.

The event, which will be held at Meremere Dragway on April 23,  will consist of drag racing, drifting, burnouts, show and shines, model searching, and dB drag racing, all for free.

Azhar Bhamji, 4 & Rotary event director, said that the idea behind the event was to give back to 4 & Rotary followers. “They’ve supported me over the years so it’s the last thing I can do,” said Bhamji.

Due to high interest, entries will be made on the day and vehicle scrutineering will finish at 11am.

“At this event, because it’s a different aspect of event and because it’s free, we are only going as far as 11 o’clock. So whatever cars we can scrutineer by 11 o’clock, that’s all we are doing,” said Bhamji.

Despite the event being free, Bhamji said 4 & Rotary hadnot taken any shortcuts to save costs on management of the event. “It’s still the same, everyone is still doing the same bits and pieces.”

Although Bhamji did not want to predict how many competitors would attend, he said that his largest event, the annual 4 & Rotary Nationals, attracted around 350 drivers.

Birthday Bash will be held at Meremere Dragway, just south of Pukekohe.
