City burn packs Garden Place

Garden Place was packed as the fires lit up the sky during the recent Balloons Over Waikato festival.

A little wind and rain did not stop the crowds from gathering in Hamilton’s Garden Place to celebrate the annual City Burn and Market.

The city was lit up on Friday night by the flames of hot air balloon burners  and people buzzing to the music of X-Factor finalists, Brendan Thomas and the Vibes.

With food stalls, games for the kids, and live music throughout the night, people were left entertained and pleased with events.

Hamilton resident, Nikki Crombie was not afraid to try the  foods on offer and said it added to the excitement of the night.

“I knew I had to give the curry goat a try, it’s not often that I see it being served. It’ll go down well with the music,” she said.

The event, which was held as a part of the Balloons over Waikato Festival, was a success on its third year running and, some would say, a win for the Hamilton City Council.

Father of one, Sean McGregor admitted to not being a fan of some of the events held in Hamilton, but was surprisingly pleased after attending the City Burn and Markets.

“It can be hard going to these sorts of events, because you can be promised a lot and then end up having a boring night with grumpy kids, but tonight was great,” he said.

The night ended on a high with flames from the hot air balloons lighting up the sky, accompanied by choreographed music.
