Wintec fashion design students are now casting for female and male models to walk in their up-and-coming runway show.

Model casting will take place this Sunday from 4-6pm in the Long Room in Wintec House, off Nisbet Street.

Team manager for Wintec fashion and interior design, Julie Ashby said the team is looking for models that can walk well and are confident.

“We look generally for people who have a fairly neutral look, so that we can actually change their hair and make up to suit the particular collection that we have.”

Ashby said they are also looking for emerging models who want to have a go at something new for them.

Models chosen will showcase designs from 12 Wintec fashion design students at their runway show on November 29.

Students have been working on their designs since the beginning of the July semester. They have around 8-weeks to create a collection and showcase between three to five outfits.

Hamilton Mayor Julie Hardaker will be presenting the annual award of most overall outstanding design at the show to one of the students.

Ashby said “this year we will be doing a retrospective show as well, because this is the last year of the diploma [the qualification will change to a degree]. So we are going to show one garment of every one of the last seven years that we’ve been running as a retrospective of past students.”

There will also be an interval show for Wintec’s hair and make-up students to feature some of their creations.

Ashby said she wants to encourage people to come to the model casting as they are looking for a range of people. Although, requirements are that they fit the industry size standards which the students design and make for.

“There is a little bit of flexibility on height,” Ashby said, but there is a minimum age of 16.

Models are asked to wear plain singlet tops and stretch jeans, trousers or short skirt for the casting. As well  ladies should bring high heel shoes.

If anyone is interested but unsure  if they fit requirements, you can email Julie Ashby on julie.ashby@wintec.ac.nz.
