It is not often that you see snow on the beach, but a community house is making it happen.

The Raglan House is providing 10 tonnes of snow for their Snow on the Beach event on July 4, at Raglan Domain.

The free event will run from 11am until 2pm and will offer three hours of winter fun for all ages.

“We’ve got a couple of bouncy castles and snow machines going as well,” event organiser and budget advisor at The Raglan House, Tony Agar, said.

There will be two fundraisers on the day, with Poihakena Marae providing a hangi and Raglan Kindergarten operating a sausage sizzle.

To help warm those playing in the snow, making snowmen and snow angels, The Raglan House will provide free soup and hot drinks.

“This is the fourth year we’ve been running the event and we do it in conjunction with the mid-winter swim which is organised and sponsored by Ray White, Raglan real estate,” Agar said.

The mid-winter swim will kick off at 11.30am and there will be numerous prizes for those who brave the water.

Local radio station RAG-FM will be providing music.

Agar said the day could only happen thanks to numerous volunteers.

The community house is asking for volunteers to help shovel the snow on the morning of the event.
