Maadi to a tee

A team’s t-shirt can make them stand out, on and off the water. They represent the team and show pride in their schools. Check out some of the t-shirts at Maadi.

There are 122 schools competing in Maadi this year, each with their own team shirts, singlets and hoodies that help them stand out on and off the water.

The annual Aon Maadi Cup t-shirt competition, is being held this year, with the winner being announced on Saturday.

Judges  encouraged schools to include the WW100 logo to honour New Zealand’s efforts in the First World War along with the words “Rowing Remembers”. The design should also include the word “Maadi” and the name or logo of Aon.

Waikato Independent reporters roamed the lake area, found a few eye catching t-shirts and asked the students about their  design.

St. Hilda’s Collegiate can be found in the brightest of blue with their school logo and St. Hilda’s Rowing boldly on the back.

“We chose this bright blue because we stand out from the crowd … you can see our squad really easily,” Imogen Corbett said.

Unfortunately, the t-shirts won’t be entered into the t-shirt competition because they had run out of time and couldn’t get the Aon logo added.

Queen Margaret College have an eye catching image on the back of their singlets and sadly couldn’t enter the t-shirt competition because they don’t include the Aon Maadi name or logo.

“A member of our crew did design the top, but we did have an input because there were quite a few designs that we got to see and we all decided to pick the best one,” Saskia van der Wilt said.

The singlets are blue and white, reflecting their school colours, and featured on the back is an oar made up of all the rowers’ names.

Glendowie College wear t-shirts with the Aon Maadi symbol and the Rowing Remembers logo, however, have not yet entered the t-shirt competition.

A parent of one of the rowers designed their t-shirts especially for this year’s Maadi.

The emblem of Glendowie College is featured on the front  and the singlet is the colours of their school.

HAMILTON GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL: Brooke Baldwin and Leah Scott.

Hamilton Girls’ High School are repping the Waikato Rowing Club’s uniform this year.

“One of the other schools have the same colours as our row suits so we’ve been rowing in Waikato colours at North Island champs and Maadi,” Brooke Baldwin said.

Entries for the competition close on Friday. For more information, to obtain the 2015 Aon Maadi Cup logo or to submit an entry, email maadicup@rowingnz.kiwi.
