Francis Douglas pair’s run of form continues

Bodie Butler and Mason Porteous have qualified for an A and B final, and show no signs of slowing down.

Bodie Butler and Mason Porteous continue to impress at Maadi.

The Francis Douglas Memorial College crew have qualified for the A final of the U18 boys novice double sculls, and the B final of the U16 boys double sculls.

“I’m really happy with how we went,” coach Jason Williams said.

“To make an A and a B final here, for us, is really massive.”

The boys pulled through in a big finish in the U18 novice double semifinal this morning, crossing the line with a time of 7:09:69.

In the U16 double semifinal, however, the increase in the class of the opponents proved  too much.

“We knew we were going to be up against it,” Butler said.

“They were like third or fourth year rowers and we’re still novices.”

Clocking in with a finishing time of 7:42:55, they crossed the line in seventh position.

The pair show no signs of slowing down, although the busy race schedule is starting to take its toll.

“[I’m] just starting to feel it now,” Porteous said after their semifinal for the U16 double sculls.

“Yeah, it’s draining,” Butler said.

When asked which final the boys will be putting more focus on tomorrow, they swiftly responded with the same answer: “The novice double.”
