Deck the tents

It’s all about the tent at Maadi Cup 2015. Check out these flash ones.

Maadi teams take their tent decorating seriously. Waikato Independent reporters found the most decked out tents and asked a few camp mothers what goes into making them their own. We asked three questions.

Who decorated the tent?

What makes your tent stand out from the others?

How long did it take to set up?

Camp mother Sam Scott from Auckland Dio Girls: “I did actually [decorate the tent], with the help of Deb Griffiths and Katherine Ellis. I made the bunting.”

“Obviously the bunting [stands out],  and of course because we are from Dio we have the white picket fence going on, pot plants up the sides and our parents are in their rowing shirts and red Dio hats.”

Set up: “We came down on Saturday and the tent went up Sunday morning and by Sunday night it was decorated.”

Rachel Spillane from King’s College: “Crystal Jackson and myself decorated the tent.”

“Do we want our tent to stand out? We just want it to be welcoming.”

Set up: “Half a day, oh no, a couple of hours.”

Sherry Ludlam from Cambridge High School: “It was a bit of a team effort, but the prime person was Julia Green.”

Sherry: “Our theme this year is Cambridge Town of Trees and Champions. Hence the trees and all the components around Cambridge winning gold in horses obviously, rowing and the cycling.”

Set up: “Lots of work went into the planning but Sunday afternoon we were here for a couple of hours getting it all set up. The banner itself took a couple of days.”
