Hamilton photographer Geoff Ridder has been named photographer of the year at the Motorsport New Zealand (MSNZ) awards held in Dunedin.

Ridder, who has collected the award twice before, scooped  photographer of the year (portfolio) and the president award (single shot).

“I guess I was pretty excited it’s an honour to be recognised by your peers and judges who know what their looking at, It’s about the challenge of getting a good image,” Ridder said.

The MSNZ awards are held annually to recognise the best work showcased from the Motorsport races.

“I picked up a camera seriously in my late teens, it was something I was okay at and something I enjoyed.”

Ridder  inherited his passion for photography from his father.

“It’s about the thrill of the chase of getting the ultimate picture and then actually achieving it into something you’re quiet satisfied and happy with,” he said.

“It’s a passion and addiction. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.”
