Hoons pour oil on city streets

Hoons spilling oil on city streets sparked a police call-out this afternoon.

Treacherous traffic conditions had Hamilton  police lining Tristram Street outside Wintec on Wednesday afternoon  to slow traffic  after young men spilled oil on the road.

An officer on duty said a carload of young guys were seen , tipping oil or diesel out of their car, from a container, while  driving.

“As you can imagine it has caused treacherous traffic conditions. So, we’re just trying to avoid any crashes,” she said

Senior sergeant Andrew O’ Reilly said reports of the carload of people started coming through at about 2pm.

He said it covered quite a big area “The oil was all along the road  from Cobham Drive, to  Seddon road [via Tristram Street].”

City Council workers   cleaned up the mess by covering the affected areas with sand.

O’Reilly said police are currently seeking information in regards to this.

“Any information assisting in the confirmation of the occupants will be gratefully received.”
