Adam Pendred, owner of a Tauranga lawnmower shop, made a toilet with a motor in it called the sportaloo.

The stainless steel motor powered toilet was made about three years ago when Pendred saw it on the cover of a Fieldays magazine.

Pendred already had a plan and decided he would finally make it, replicating the magazine image he had seen.

He said it took a while to make. “I built it in my spare time in winter,” he said.

The sportaloo is made out of spare lawnmower parts and the motor is from a weed eater.

Pendred who is working at a chainsaw and lawnmowing exhibit said he enjoys the reactions people have.

“I love to make people smile and see the number of people who look in the pan. I don’t know what they’re going to see,” he said.

He has been offered money for the sportaloo, which runs at about 15km/h, but said it is not something he would want to sell.

As well as competing in lawnmower racing, he has also made a hotrod mower which he describes as a ‘pimped’ lawnmower.

This is the 13th year Pendred has been to Fieldays and the third time he has bought the sportaloo.
