Quinn Engineering exhibitors at Fieldays for 44 years

Quinn Enginneering have been exhibiting at the Fieldays almost as long as Fieldays have been around. Managing Director Alex Quinn talks about some of the changes he’s seen.

Fieldays is constantly changing but exhibitor Quinn Engineering is still going strong after 44 years.

Eddy Quinn, founder of the company, came to the first Fieldays at the Hamilton racecourse 45 years ago.

The following year the company, then known as Quinn Baleboys, decided to come to the Fieldays as an exhibitor and the rest is history.

Forty-four years later, Quinn Baleboys, now Quinn Engineering, are still exhibiting.

“When we first came out, there was one half-round hay barn where the women’s division of Federated Farmers made sausage roles and sauces.”

“There was often flooding, bog holes, vehicles getting stuck, over flowing toilets.”

Managing director Alex Quinn says there have been many developments at Fieldays since then.

“Long gone are the comparative demos where balers would break trying to bale hay.”

Quinn Engineering was the winner of one of these demos for their big bale handler.

They have continued to develop their machinery but say the same principles still apply for their products as back then.

Quinn says the camaraderie between exhibitors has been lost over the years with camping now off grounds.

“The show is much more safety conscious.”

One thing he enjoys about coming to the Fieldays is meeting up with old clients, and reminiscing with one man who visits them every year at the event.

“It’s really quite a buzz when you’ve got a client who’s been there for 30 odd years.”
