Lunch with the Lions

Fundraising for community causes is fuelled by hot chips and hot dogs at the Te Awamutu Lions Club stand

Lions Club Te Awamutu have had lunch covered at the Fieldays with their food stall.

Volunteers lent a hand cooking hot chips and hot dogs to raise funds for the club.

The food stall has been an annual fundraising event over the past 36 years for the club.

“What we make here goes back into the community, that’s our purpose here,” club president Malcolm Lind said.

“It’s a lovely social time. The community benefits, that’s what it’s all about.”

Funds raised from the stall will go toward various projects such as restoration of the bush train in Ngaroma playground.

The only one of its kind, the train will be moved under cover into the town centre to be displayed for public viewing.

“It was deteriorating. We were not able to bring it back to full working condition but we are certainly able to bring it back for viewing,” Lind said.

Other funds will go toward organisations such as the Westpac helicopter, St John and the Cancer Society Lions lodge.

“We really appreciate the support from the locals.”

Dinsdale Lions Club got in on the action too, helping set up and take down the Skellerup tent.

“It takes a lot of work and man power,” Dinsdale Lions Club president Michelle Houghton said.

Like Te Awamutu, Dinsdale helps out for fundraising to put back into the community and is currently discussing new projects.
