Zoe McBride and Hannah Duggan win U18 double for Kavanagh

Zoe McBride and Hannah Duggan are “over the moon” after winning gold in the U18 doubles.

Zoe McBride and Hannah Duggan of Kavanagh College have won the girls U18 double today.

Zoe and Hannah, both 17, are happy with the result, with Zoe saying they were over the moon.

“It was pretty tough but we just knew that this was our last chance and we just gave it everything,” she said. “It’s been our goal for the last few years.”

Coach John Parnell said this was their fourth season and that this would be their last Maadi Regatta. “This is the big one for them,” he said.

Zoe’s father, Dene McBride said “It’s a good start to the regatta – there’s a long way to go, three more finals.”

He was happy to support his daughter in her sport, saying “I’ve always thought, if they want to row, give them all the support that you can . . . if they’re motivated enough to get out there and do it at five o’clock every morning.”

The pair have made A-finals for all their races, and Kavanagh College has made seven A-finals.
