The pop punk band’s lead singer, Brendan Pyper, is always keen to give back to the community.

“We jumped at the chance because we love to give back, to play at a gig that’s not just for ourselves,” Pyper said.

“People there are running to raise funds for cancer, so if there’s anything we can do that helps that in any way.

“Especially because we know people that have been victimised by it, we’re all connected it in some way. It is something that’s part of us.”

Guitarist Jared Stevenson said it was a huge opportunity. “A lot of our gigs, it’s for promotion but for this one it’s quite cool to give back to the community,” he said.

“Relay for Life is basically a 24 hour relay, so people are walking around a relay track and there’s all sorts of activities – all fundraising for cancer.”

The band likes the fact it is a family event with people from all ages and backgrounds coming together for a cause.

As a band they acknowledge that everyone has a voice and deserves equality and a chance to speak up.

Pyper said they like their music to be relevant to their audience, as everyone has gone through something.

Their shows are a way for people to escape whatever is bothering them and to be empowered by the music.

“It’s our passion, it’s what we do and we put that into our music. If they can relate to something that’s happened to them through one of our songs, that’s awesome.” Pyper said.

Stevenson: “And we have a lot of fun doing it!”

With a new album coming out in May and a gig at Rainbow’s End next weekend, the band is excited about what’s next.

Pyper explained what the new album will be about. “It’s bringing back a whole lot of ideas. It’s attitude through music. It’s about getting it right.”

“It’s also a tool for us to experiment creatively; it’s not just usual pop punk.” Stevenson  added.

The band is made up of bassist Matt Ogden, 20, guitarist Jared Stevenson, 20, drummer Jeremy Badger, 25 and lead singer Brendan Pyper, 25.
