St Paul’s Collegiate rowing parents show true dedication to their children at the Maadi Regatta.

Sarah Schicker and Julie Goodwin are two of the many parents involved with the organisation of the under 16 rowers.

They arrange everything for the rowers including their meals and transport, and support their general wellbeing.

Schicker said while she stays with the rowers at Matangi, Julie drops off “endless amounts of baking, desserts and dinners. The parents have been fantastic. They are all given a dish to bring on their night cooking.”

“The boys are all very well mannered and do appreciate what we do for them.”

St Paul’s Collegiate was host to St Andrew’s and St Margaret’s from Christchurch at a drinks and nibbles evening on Wednesday in the Don Rowlands centre.

Another rowing mother Wendy Husband-Dravitzki made flower arrangements and prepared the food and drinks for the evening.

St Paul’s also hosted rowers from St Andrew’s after the Christchurch earthquake, which formed a good connection between the schools.

“It’s a great community,” said Goodwin.

Goodwin’s 80-year-old father is also passionate about providing the rowers with what they need. He baked four dozen blueberry and chocolate muffins on Sunday, which had disappeared by Monday morning.
