Otumoetai link to German rock group

NZ music has played a small, but significant role in launching German rock group Immersion

A German  Otumoetai College exchange student is about to take his band on a tour of Europe – thanks to inspiration absorbed during his stay in Tauranga.

Up and coming  band Immersion are preparing  their first European tour thanks to Tobias Bacherle’s time in New Zealand in 2010.

Tobias was not studying music at Otumoetai College but after watching  New Zealand group, The Earlybirds, perform in Auckland knew that he wanted to form a stage band.

“It was a great feeling and showed me that I really needed to have a band to go on stage with,” Tobias says.

Once back in Germany, he asked friend, Daniel Greber if he would  form a band.

After going through four drummers and kicking the old bass player out, Immersion was formed.

The group has since created a growing fan base on the local music scene, performing gigs at youth centres and concert venues.

“Our idols are Madison Affair, and, totally different, Feine Sahne Fischfilet,” Tobias says.

“They do a great job towards anti-racism and I really hope that one day people will think of Immersion as a political, anti-racism, anti-fascism band.”

With their first tour of Germany and Europe, Immersion hope to promote their first demo record, with their popular song Fragments, and to shoot their first music video by the end of this year.

“We want to change the world and wake the people up. We want them to think and reflect and if that doesn’t work … well I hope we still can party.”
