On Sunday October 14, 11 brave men will be ready to endure tears and pain purely for the kids’ gain, by having their chest, back and legs waxed.

Kidscan aims to provide lunch to children in New Zealand’s primary schools, currently going hungry during the school day.

Daara Parkinson created the fundraising event after watching Campbell Live’s “Lunchbox Day fundraiser” where New Zealanders could make a $3 donation, providing one lunch.

“I didn’t feel my contribution was nearly enough, I felt that it wasn’t fair that some kids had to miss out on the basic necessities of life through no fault of their own,” Parkinson said.

Daara’s partner Asri is a schoolteacher and has seen first hand how kids are affected without breakfast or lunch.

“Pure and simple, no child should have to go hungry.”

Lawrenson Group & Hamilton bar owner John Lawrenson is involved in the event, to be held at the Bank Bar at 2pm.

The ultimate goal is to raise at least $1000 for KidsCan, Parkinson said. “By raising $1000, we provide the funds for KidsCan to distribute 333 lunches to their registered schools, and at the end of the day, regardless of what we raise, giving these kids the opportunity to eat lunch is what it’s all about.”
