Young male designer has it all sewn up

A year nine pupil impresses a well-known designer, winning a fashion award and a brand new sewing machine.

A Year Nine male student has beaten more experienced designers to win the Supreme Award in the Hauraki Plains College annual Make n Model show.

Josh Webber took out the Supreme Award with his racing pit crew uniform.

He won a sewing machine.

One of two event organisers, Amanda Fitzpatrick, said the night ran like clockwork.

“The entrants were all fantastic and the crowd amazingly supportive of all entrants. Great to have Becky Armstrong an ex pupil on the music along with Avalon Pascoe on the camera, another ex-pupil.”

After a sell out show there were more than 300 people in the audience.

“We had to put in another extra 50 seats for the evening show which all but went,” says Fitzpatrick.

There were 112 entrants this year from surrounding schools Matamata, St Peters Cambridge, Thames High, and Otumoetai.

The fashion show raised approximately $4000 towards the Year 12 and  13 student Wow Trip to Wellington.

Annah Stretton says she loves these types of events.

“I will always want to be involved in events such as this as anything that ignites the creative passions of our youth and provides a creative platform has got to be great.”

Mrs Fitzpatrick said next year’s Make n Model fashion show would be in August.

“There are already people telling me they are entering and what they are making.”

Make n Model Fashion Show’s major sponser is Peter Harrop.
