Festival director Kat Cox said to have someone like Goicolea  in the festival lineup was exciting.

“His name is recognised by people around the world who study his work, or view his photographs in journals, galleries and magazines,” she said.

“He is one of our superstars, and it’s great to give that to the people of the Waikato and the students at the School of Media Arts.

“I hope a bit of Anthony will rub off on everyone who attends.”

Goicolea will give a lecture about his work and how he got to where he is as well as offering his skills and knowledge to those attending his free photography workshop.

The workshop is targeted at media arts students who can bring a selection of their own black and white images and explore different Photoshop techniques used by artists in his field.

The lecture will be held in the Hub at Wintec’s City Campus.

This year’s Spark week has a total of 21 guests, six more than last year, including Peter Robinson, Brett Graham, David Farrier and Judy Darragh in the line-up. For more information on workshops and other guests see www.spark.net.nz.
