Keoghan studied photography at Wintec before realising her true passion laid in illustrating.

Her work has been described as “whimsical creations” commonly featuring giants and imaginary landscapes.

“A lot of my personal work is about exploration and adventure.”

In 2010, Mrs Keoghan was commissioned to do some artwork for Holly Brown café in Hong Kong.

She was then flown to Hong Kong to shoot photos for the café’s walls, and ultimately design the interior.

“They say photography is a glamorous job, but not that day,” Mrs Keoghan said about shooting photos of children and ice cream in 30 degree heat.

She had many words of wisdom for the Wintec and high school students in the audience, including staying in touch with classmates.

“Everyone you know is a link to someone you might collaborate with.”

She also said artists should try to make something on the periphery of what they normally do.

“Think globally and outside New Zealand. You never know who is watching you. One day someone might call and ask you to make some illustrations for a café in Hong Kong – they just might.”

Back in Hamilton Mrs Keoghan will continue her work with Talking Tech and Milk and Honey café.
