“Switch on Te Aroha” in motion for Christmas

Te Aroha’s town centre and bridge Christmas lights project seems to be on target for the “Switch on Te Aroha” celebration this December after a recent committee progress meeting last Thursday.

Although Christmas is still four months away, Te Aroha residents and business have come together in support of the committee.
Chairperson Elizabeth Gonda said it has been six weeks since she first met with the Business Association to discuss the idea of decorating Te Aroha for Christmas.
“Since then we have started applying for grants through various funders. Along with this Christmas donation boxes being distributed throughout Te Aroha, a barbecue fundraiser and our first raffle is in progress,” Gonda said.
When placed in charge of the committee at the end of June, Ms Gonda knew more members would be needed once the committee was up and running.

“Ultimately the Te Aroha Christmas lights project is about bringing the community together in the spirit of Christmas.
“So far we have met many people who are behind the project and look forward to introducing ourselves to the various individuals and community groups who will help make this project work,” Ms Gonda said.
Over the next few months Ms Gonda and committee member Stacey Hockenhull will be approaching members of the community for support and for new members.

The committee is also preparing a fundraising Ball which will be held on the October 27.
Tickets go on sale from August 8 and will be available from Te Aroha iSITE.
