Silver Fern Casey Williams was one of the guest speakers at this year’s Schmooze event, held on Tuesday at Wintec’s city campus in an effort to motivate and inspire around 50 female business, media arts and health students.

Williams received a warm welcome, saying “For me to be successful, I have to have the right attitude” and “Preparation is not just turning up.”

Also sharing success stories and tips on how to be a cut above other graduates applying for the same jobs, were Dana Biggs from Dress For Success, Waikato Regional Councillor Paula Southgate and, because it was the first year Schmooze had been open to health students, Jewel Morrison who is placement co-ordinator at Nurse Staff.

Sam Wenham, a first year nursing student, said: “Hearing four women stand up and speak in front of a group was inspiring in itself. I got a lot of great pointers and left feeling really uplifted and inspired.”

In its third year under the direction of Mandy Guilford, student life manager at Wintec, Schmooze is set to continue next year as a free event offering a great opportunity to gather tips and be inspired because, as Mandy says, “Girls can do anything.”
