The Atomic Market celebrates the rockabilly and vintage community in New Zealand and grows bigger every year.

Atomic Market coordinator Melanie Freeman said the annual market aimed to offer something that [people] could come to celebrate.

“We are restricted to online shopping to get these [items], especially from the States, so we wanted to bring it all under one roof.

“This will bring [stall holders] repeat business,” she said.

“Hopefully in a couple of years we will be able to lure some of the Australian businesses across as well.”

The market brought together people from all over the country, including Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland.

Many had talked on Facebook but never met.

The Vanity Case stallholder, Claire Gormly, came up from Wellington and said Atomic is the only vintage fair in the North Island.

“I think it is a good chance for us vintage lifestyle people and vendors to show off what is available in New Zealand at the moment and to have a party.”

Miss Vintage New Zealand 2012 Michelle Parish of Debonaire Doo’s and Claire Gormly ran a workshop on the day entitled Magic of Marilyn.

The workshop showed ladies how to pin curl their hair and do their make up in a Marilyn Monroe style.
