Joker in the boot camp pack

Week two of boot camp is hard work and week three is ruled out on doctor’s orders.

As I entered the doors of boot camp, my trainer Rachel Dombroski said “We’re playing cards tonight”.

Being week two, I had wised up to the ways of boot camp and figured we wouldn’t be playing a leisurely game of last card.

I was right.

Each suit represented a different exercise and as you flipped each card over you had to do the corresponding number of exercises.

In most card games, getting an ace or a joker sends your ego over the edge. But in this exercise-based card game those two cards were the absolute enemy.

They forced you to do 11 of each of the exercises. What’s more, Rachel would yell “double up” randomly throughout the pack.

I’ve never been happier to see the end of a pack of cards. As a reward for finishing early we did tricep dips and tornadoes.

Yes, they are considered a reward.

I am relatively happy that the exercises all have such daunting names, because it prepares me for what is about to go down.

On Thursday, we completed a circuit routine which I dubbed the “Un-merry-go-round.”

The time keeper was the lucky lass who was on the push-ups station. The rest of the ladies had to do the exercise on their station until the push-ups were complete.

I apologise to all the girls for my incredibly slow push-ups, they’re just really not my forte.

The next week of boot camp brought in a totally new painful element, bronchitis. So it was doctor’s orders that I was to sit out week three.

Not exercising for that time means that week four of boot camp is going to be extra challenging. Ah, life.
