Promo girl has a revelation (or three)

For journalist Brenda Kidd, a stint as a promo girl on a car stand at the Fieldays was revelatory

Revelation Number One:   Fieldays people are nice – really nice.

As a writer I deal with words – usually formulated in my head and only then written down.

All Smiles: Promo girls Summer Bell and Brenda Kidd are all ready to talk the torque.

Today I’m at the coal face of words as meet-and-greet girl for Nissan New Zealand.

Everyone here is friendly, nobody is in a hurry, conversation is easy, subjects fascinating and wide.

So here amongst the utes and SUVs, I am learning on the go.

For a girl whose knowledge of cars stopped at the colour – I can now talk about torque.

Revelation Number Two:  Car salesmen are nice – really nice.

Forget the stereotypes, these guys are chilled.  They are all family men who like to sell cars but talk family.  Interests and backgrounds as varied as most, One is a Pinot fiend (but only from Canterbury).  The other appears to be an existentialist.

“If that man’s name wasn’t Stephen, would he be interested in a Navarro?”

Indeed.

Revelation Number Three: It is perfectly acceptable, at Fieldays, to have a man date.

Ron and Peter from Te Kauwhata have been coming together to Fieldays every year for the last 15.  It’s an occasion they look forward to every year, leaving the “Mrs” at home for the day while they make their pilgrimage to Mystery Creek.

Ending with a Waikato or two, they toast another year, to good life, a bonza wife, and Fieldays.
