Tauranga kick boxer Daniel Geurts is aiming for his eighth straight victory at the upcoming Muay Thai Mayhem’s four-man elimination round in Auckland on June 23.

The Tauranga car re-finisher has an impressive record since first entering the ring last September, and has won four of his fights by knock out.

The middle-weight kickboxer underwent six weeks of physio to re-align his spine and reset his posture before he started training.

Muay Thai trainer, Shane Bishop has built Geurts’ routine around fitness and agility.

“Fighting really is fitness and hard sparring I reckon,” Geurts says.

“You’re training so hard for just the one night thing.”

Since his first fight in September last year, Geurts  says the training has changed his life.

“It’s pretty hard but it helps you in your life like in general. It stopped me from drinking,” Geurts says.

“It’s hard sometimes, you don’t want to train but you know what you have to do.”

Geurts is always thinking of how to gain extra advantage over his opponent.

“What if he’s training right now, and if I have a day off?

“You have to try and beat his training routine. Muay Thai is one-on-one, it’s just you and him.”
