Having played at numerous English festivals for the past few years, Kiwi band Melic are excited to return to their homeland.

Melic are a four piece funk and acoustic rock band based in London, made up of Matamata’s very own Andrew Coogan, the band’s drummer, and brothers Mark (guitar and vocals) and Steve Hitchcock (bass guitar and vocals).

Saxophone and keyboard player Romy Bylin was picked up along the way and Melic was formed in 2008.

The band  will perform in Hamilton in June as part of a New Zealand tour. Other venues will include Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch.

“A large chunk of our fan-base is in New Zealand and we’ve had a bit of a boost with some airplay on New Zealand radio station, The Rock FM, so it would be silly not to have a New Zealand tour,” Andrew said.

The band have released two EPs: Melic in 2009, and Nowhere I’d Rather Be in February this year.

A third EP is due to be released at the end of the year.

“2012 is shaping up as another big year for Melic,” Andrew said.

“As soon as we get back from New Zealand we’ll be hitting festival season, along with doing a residency at the famous Troubadour in Earls Court in London during the Olympics,” he said.

Melic will play at Altitude bar in Hamilton on June 8 and tickets can be purchased at www.undertheradar.co.nz. Check the band out at www.melicband.com.
