She may have been the smallest, lightest and youngest competitor – but she wiped the floor with the competition.

Every woman and child and their friends attended the dog parade at Coronation Park in Mount Maunganui this weekend.

Owners and their dogs circled the arena competing in categories for the best dressed; tallest dog; shortest dog; smallest dog; cutest dog; best parade walk and best trick of the day.

Dressed in a pink Minnie mouse t-shirt, 15-week-old Chihuahua Crystal stole the show winning best dressed dog, smallest dog, cutest dog and best trick.

Her winning trick was to crawl along the ground and drag her feet behind while circling the parade track.

Showdogs and Gottapet services organised the event to promote their doggy grooming and day care facilities.

Spokesperson for Gottapet, Gaby Suhl said the day was to provide the community with something different while promoting their services.

“It’s just a day for owners to dress up their pets and come have some fun.”

Gottapet is a free social network website targeting New Zealand pet owners and animal lovers with an online meeting place.

Members can share photos, tell stories, meet and greet with other pet owners and have access to pet sitting, day care and dog walking services.
