Drent, who plays Daniel Potts in the long-running soap, will be in the area visiting schools to raise awareness about the event, which takes place from May 25-27 and will help children in Mali and Niger.

It is his third year of being a team captain for the 40 Hour Famine. He leads the blue team, one of the official teams on the website.

Drent, 25, says “with 11 million people around the world struggling for food”,  it is important for those with ‘blessed’ lives to give back.

Drent gave back recently, going to East Timor in 2011. He visited the villages that received funds raised in last years’ 40 hour famine.

And what will be Drent’s first meal when he finishes the famine?

“A big breakfast of bacon and eggs,”
