Mission achieved for Rod Stewart

As he greeted the sell-out audience at the Mission Estate Winery Concert on February 25 you could tell people were excited and ready for ‘Rocking Rod’ to begin.

Rod Stewart stuck to his well-known and loved hits. Changing outfits three times during the concert and also doing an acoustic set mid-way through the concert, Rod Stewart entertained the crowd by singing hits including The First Cut Is The Deepest, Tonight’s The Night, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? and Maggie May.

Throughout the concert Rod was his usual self. Bringing his legendary stage appeal to the Mission, he cracked jokes, showed photos of family members on the big screens and laughed along with the crowd.

He had the audience going all night, pausing occasionally to let the crowd sing along.

“I wish you could hear what I hear,” Rod said. Up and down the hill all you could see were hands in the air and people singing along with big smiles on their faces.

Even the pre-concert rain failed to dampen people’s spirits as support acts Chad Chambers, Hey Miss and Peter Urlich kept the growing crowd entertained.

With an entire night of fun, good music and ponchos all-round, those at the sell-out concert got their money’s worth.

Although Rod’s encore lacked notification, and people were left wondering whether that was it, I felt the overall experience was very enjoyable. Rod sang everything the crowd was expecting to hear and for me it was well worth the four hour drive, long queues, poor weather and running to get my spot in front of the stage.
