Cherry Tree is a wholesale on-line business that focuses on cutting out the middle man. Members pay wholesale prices instead of retail.

Customers can potentially save up to anything between 32-72 per cent on product purchases. Waikato Cherry Tree owner Kelly Olsen said the company currently caters for 5500 families after starting from nothing in 2008.

“For example, retail price on a pair of high quality socks would be $22.99. With Cherry Tree customers can purchase them for $12.70. I guess the biggest barrier to overcome is the fact that a lot of people don’t want to hear about us. They think that there has to be a catch and this is what makes it hard for us to get out there.”

With only medium to premium products supplied Kelly said this is the big difference between them and other wholesale organizations.

“Products are all new and bona fide. We supply medium to premium products. It comes to you with the same guarantee as retail stores. There is no chance of failure, the company is very safe.”

Cherry Tree has 500 suppliers and this number is growing. The company covers 50 per cent of these supplies independently, with Australasia largest independent buying group supplying most of the rest.

“We can compensate for any age, there’s an online website for internet savvy customers and there is also stores for customers who just want a real person to talk to. We supply pretty much anything from baby dummies to brand new Utes”.

Kelly Olsen and husband Geoff started their own branch in Hamilton four years ago.

“It’s like buying in a normal shop, you’re just not paying anything like the price. My husband and I
became very interested in Cherry Tree when we managed to save $1800 on house content and business insurance after one year.”

There are only two other branches in New Zealand one in Wellington and one in Christchurch.

Cherry Tree charges $1895 to join with a one-year membership fee of $200.
