Polo Crosse Nationals hard fought for competition

Turf flew as riders and horses fought out the finals in the national Polo Crosse competition at Taumarunui

New Zealand Polo Crosse Nationals were held in the weekend at the Taumarunui sports grounds.

Nationals is one of the most prestigious tournaments of the Polo Crosse season attracting the top riders.

The A grade final was very closely contended for between Central Plateau (Putaruru- Tirau ) and Wanganui/Waimarino. After an at times close run competition, Central Plateau won with a final score of 19-12.

Waikato took out the B grade competition with King Country runners up.

The C grade division was also fought for until the very end with King Country’s four-goal lead eventually forcing Central Plateau to accept the runners up prize.

New arrival to the Putaruru-Tirau polocrosse club, Toby Brett, won the best number 2 of the C grade competition. This was an amazing accomplishment for someone in their first season.

The mixed division stuck to its familiar trend with a nail-biting final with a final score of  21-18 to  Central Plateau pushing King Country into the second place slot.

Central Plateau member Brad Hall was named the best number 3 player in the A grade division while Daniel Stirling was named the best number 2 of the competition. Lawrence Tye’s Harley was named the best pony of the whole A grade competition.

Russell Tye (CP) was named the best number two and Daryel Mouat (CP) the best number 1 of the mixed division competition.

The most outstanding rider and pony throughout went to Waikato’s Kyla Hill and her pony Nugg.

Putaruru-Tirau member Lauren Tye, 15, will travel to Australia with the New Zealand Juniors in a couple of weeks to compete.
