Hamilton filmmakers fly in from Seattle youth festival

Waikato film Zach’s Plan did not win at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth in Seattle, but the film’s makers had a great time networking.

Wintec globe trotters Lisa Brown and Deborah Fitz-Herbert are back from their whirlwind trip to the States.

The film graduate pair took in the sights and sounds of Los Angeles and San Francisco prior to their immersion in the National Film Festival for Talented Youth in Seattle.

The NFFTY gave the two filmmakers an opportunity to network at the Experience Music Project.

“We got a chance to talk to other filmmakers in the festival as well as professional filmmakers,” Miss Brown said.

“Most of the films in the festival were really good and looked really professional. A lot had used CGI [CommonGateway Interface] which I don’t even know how to do.

“My film, Zach’s Plan, screened in the On the Edge of your Seat category at Seattle International Film Festival’s cinema.”

Seven films accompanied the short suspense film which was shot at a Manawaru farm house in Te Aroha with a crew of fellow visual image graduates.

Both women returned in time to join their V48 Hour short film “CMW” teammates in the Hamilton section of the national competition last weekend.
